Last week, we were thrilled to attend the dedication ceremony for the 96 Ritchie Ave. Habitat for Humanity build. Our very own marketing specialist Lauren Hughes hammered in the joists holding up the first floor – in the rain!

Although overshadowed slightly by World Habitat Day also on October 1st, the eyes and the hearts of volunteer builders focused on Ritchie Ave. for a remarkable moment. The Sinato family, with mom Lorena and son Bryan were absolutely thrilled to accept the keys to their new Habitat home. The new home will open many doors, none more important to the Sinatos than the accessibility features that will allow Bryan, who is legally blind and lives with cerebral palsy, to thrive. Lorena gave a heartwarming speech to let the crowd – filled with sponsors and volunteers – know how much the home would mean to Bryan. Bryan, on the other hand, could not stop dancing.

We are very pleased to be a part of an industry that is so committed to giving back to the community. Thanks go of course to @HabitatToronto and to @BILDGTA for making our (seemingly insignificant) build day possible. Further thanks to those who shared in our rainy day experience, @EurodaleDevelopments, @MadhouseAD, @RenoMark and of course all of the amazing full-time Habitat workers and volunteers.

Builders receive a lesson on joists!

Maybe we don’t get out of the office enough, but we were thrilled last week upon seeing Bryan Tuckey’s Toronto Star article highlighting our day with Habitat for Humanity on Richie Ave. BILD’s annual effort for one deserving Habitat family is this year benefitting Lorena Sinato, a single mother, and her son Bryan who is blind and suffers from cerebral palsy. For Bryan, the home will be fully accessible and barrier-free.

We wanted to give one more big thank you to BILD, Habitat for Humanity, and fellow builders Rebecca of David Small Designs, Tami and Shannon of Madhouse Advertising, Brendan and Jim of Eurodale Developments, Amy of Stikeman Elliott and of course Amy and Laura of BILD!

Constellation for Humanity

A home is so much more than a roof over your head. A home provides shelter, security, and a sense of place – a sense of belonging to both family and community. Habitat for Humanity makes this abundantly clear for hundreds of deserving families each year.

On Thursday, August 9 2012, Constellation joined a team from BILD and RenoMark on Ritchie Ave near Dundas and Bloor Streets to help make this happen for one Habitat Toronto family. Our team was comprised of builders, architects, advertisers, and lawyers, all involved in the residential building community, and led by highly competent Habitat crew leaders and site super.

The build may not have been glamorous – the rain on this particular day kept us rather soggy – but our team managed to complete a section of floor and prepare walls for what we could only imagine would be an exciting day of wall raising for another Habitat group. We hope our lack of experience didn’t hold up progress too much!

We got a taste of the task that is presented to our clients every day of the year. Our clients may have to charge their customers for the luxury of a brand new home, but the results are much the same: they use bricks and beams to create homes and a sense of community.

Here are some more photos from Thursday’s Ritchie Ave build.

Big thanks to all those involved: @BILDgta @RenoMark_ca @HabitatToronto @MadhouseAD Eurodale Developments and of course @ConstellationHB and @lthughes

We’re looking forward to more BILD builds!
